There is a fine line between Patriotism and Nationalism and at times it is difficult to tell them apart. But, do not be fooled. A Patriot stands for liberty, a Nationalist stands for oppression. One might view images and films of Nazi-era gatherings and parades and be in awe of their German “patriotism”. Though, in hind-sight, that is not a word that would come to mind in the aftermath of Nazi aggression and genocide. And, racism is not exclusive to someone from the “white” (Caucasian) race discriminating, or committing violence against, someone from the “black” (African) race, or vice versa. Nor is it exclusive to a, self-proclaimed, Aryan master race and hatred toward Jews. Yet, those exclaiming not to be racist have no trouble using such terms as “the Chinese” and “the Mexicans” in an effort to clearly delineate by race or ethnicity, the enemy, or at a minimum, the source of problems to the established United States population.
Nationalism and racism, mixed with Socialism, is the very foundation of Fascism. Like in Germany in the 1920’s and 1930’s, difficult economic conditions for the vast majority of Americans are leading to the popularity of both Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders. Trump’s early polling success is being driven by the advancement of fascist trade protection and anti-immigrant rhetoric. Sander’s success is rooted in Communistic, racism towards the wealthy, if you will, fervor. Not that our current re-distributive system of Socialism is an ideal, but a further shift left towards outright Fascism or Communism would appear inescapable without major misery, conflict and bloodshed. And, in my opinion, while Communism in America appeared the greater threat of the 20th century, Fascism is clearly the greater threat in the 21st century.
Along these lines, I am re-posting a very important and informative article published a couple days ago. The author recognizes the rise in Fascism as a far left wing, not far right wing, ideology in the United States and a potentially inevitable march towards full blown Fascism.
